SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Crunch hockey club officially open up the 2011/12 season late this week. But, as with any team sport, team building and bonding is an important part of success, and the Crunch players were doing just that Monday as they traveled around Syracuse performing a variety of tasks and feats, building team camaraderie.
Five teams of four or five players scurried around for a two hour period Monday afternoon doing everything from waiting on customers at Dunkin Donuts to searching for the Ernie Davis statue at the Carrier Dome.
On their stop at CNYcentral, I had arranged a game of “Weather Pictionary & Charades” where they would randomly choose types of weather and have to draw or act it out for the others to guess it. Once they got three correct, they were on their way.
I made the weather elements straight forward using a variety of seven. I used hot, cold, snow, rain, thunderstorm, tornado and windy. I’d say they found “windy” the toughest element to describe.
All the teams did great, but the overall winning team who completed the five assigned tasks in the shortest amount of time was Team 5 consisting of Kyle Palmieri, Nathan Smith, Rick Schofield and Peter Holland.
The teams also appeared to really like our WSTM Channel 3 and CW-6 News set. Check out the photo. Maybe a sports broadcasting career after hockey?
The Crunch had a fantastic pre-season with a 4-0 record. They open up on the road against Binghamton this Friday and then back for their home opener at the War Memorial this Saturday against Adirondack.
