ALBANY (AP) -- The seasons for hunting deer and bear with bows and muzzleloaders are set to begin in parts of New York.
Starting at sunrise Saturday, muzzleloaders will be allowed in the northern zone covering the Adirondacks, the Tug Hill Plateau, the eastern Lake Ontario plain, and the Champlain and St. Lawrence valleys. Bowhunting will be allowed in the southern zone, taking in the rest of upstate except for Westchester County.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says that one change this year is a new law allowing 12- and 13-year-olds to buy Junior Bowhunting licenses. And bear hunting has been expanded from Westchester to Washington counties in eastern New York during the same time as deer hunting.
