Drs. Brett and Seth Greenky are Nepal-bound: they'll replace 100 joints in 4 days.
Orthopedic surgeons Brett and Seth Greenky have won lots of awards locally, but say they're really honored that their practice has been picked to be part of Operation Walk, sending them to Nepal to do joint replacements. Syracuse is the 13th city picked, and the smallest community to field what's essentially a MASH-type operation.
The equipment is already packed and on its way, and the people leave in early November. It's an almost full day of flying, and they plan to start operating as soon as they hit the ground, doing 100 joint replacements in 4 days. The Greenkys say that, as surgeons, they're used to the crazy hours. While in Nepal, they also expect to do some teaching, and when they get back on Thanksgiving week, they plan to also do joint replacements in this community for people who cannot afford them.
The effort will cost about a quarter million dollars, and contributions from this community are welcome. There's a fundraiser spaghetti dinner set for this coming Thursday (October 20) at Most Holy Rosary Church,, 4 - 8pm. For more information, the Operation Walk website (above) or 329-7600.
