Utica woman hit by car, charged with possessing crack

UTICA -- A Utica woman was charged for possessing of crack after being hit by a car.

According to police, they responded to a car-pedestrian accident at the intersection of Whitesboro Street and Churchill Avenue in Utica.

Police say that, by accounts of witnesses, Carmen Ramos, 60, was walking in the road when she was struck by Anthony Ferguson. According to Ferguson, he didn’t see Ramos in the road.

Ramos was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital with head, pelvic and collarbone injuries.

According to police, it is alleged that Ramos threw a bag of crack cocaine to the floor when she saw police officers at the hospital.

Ramos was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, pedestrian walking in the roadway, and failure to use sidewalks where provided.
