Burdett man accused of shooting at passing cars

BURDETT, SCHUYLER CO. -- A Burdett man is accused of shooting at passing cars with a rifle.

According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph V. Esposito, 25, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly shooting at passing cars from his home on State Route 79 in the Village of Burdett.

Deputies say Esposito was arrested following a half-hour long standoff with officers after allegedly shooting at cars with a rifle, including law enforcement cars.

Esposito is being charged with two counts of attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

Police say no one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
