SYRACUSE -- The owner of the Syracuse house where dozens of cats were living in deplorable conditions most likely won't face animal cruelty charges, says Paul Morgan, executive director of the CNY SPCA.

Morgan says the owner lives in a nursing home and wasn't at the property. Morgan says the investigation is ongoing and authorities are looking to see if someone else was possibly involved.

More cats were removed from the property on Friday. In total, 35 were taken out, Morgan says 10 had to be euthanized and the others are under medical observation. More cats are still in the home at 111 Beard Place, near Oakwook Cemetery. The structure of the building is unstable, making it hard to reach the animals. Some of the cats are said to be hiding in rotten walls or debris.

Workers started removing the animals on Wednesday and according to Morgan, will continue on Monday.
