AURORA -- Voters in the Southern Cayuga Central School District say yes to one project, but no to another. Results are in from a capital project vote in Aurora.
Taxpayers approved Proposition I. That involves spending $5.6 million to renovate and repair existing facilities at the Poplar Ridge campus. That project is eligible for state aid.
Proposition II failed. Voters decided against spending $1.25 million to expand the middle school gym to a standard size. That project was not eligible for state aid.
The district says there will be no tax levy increase to pay for the renovations.
District officials point out this vote does not change the outcome of the decision in August to close Emily Howland Elementary School at the end of the 2011-12 school year. The district says that school is being closed to help save money and increase efficiency by bringing the entire district onto one campus.
