COLUMBUS, CHENANGO COUNTY -- Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit and run that left a 50-year-old woman dead Thursday night around 7 p.m.
According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Linda J. Jakubowski-Decker of West Winfield, Herkimer County, was struck and killed but a pick-up truck driving east on County Route 25 in the Town of Columbus in front of the Agro-Farma dairy processing facility.
Jakubowski was transported to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with severe head trauma. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Deputies say the suspect, Daniel B. Preston, 27, fled the scene but was later located at his residence at 597 Armstrong Road in Plainfield, Otsego County.
Deputies say Preston’s Dodge pick-up truck was located at a friend’s residence on Bert White Road in the Town of Edmeston and secured as evidence.
Preston was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and aggravated unlicensed operation.
Preston was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court and help at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail.
Additional charges are pending further investigation.
