CAMILLUS -- Every year Mickey and Bill Hendrix add something new to the Halloween display in their yard. Sometimes it's a new ghost, ghoul or mummy and before they realized it, the Hendrix's house had become a Camillus Halloween tradition. It sits high on a hill, overlooking the village's main street and every year hundreds of trick or treaters come to see how it all came together.
Bill built two coffins to hold mummies by the front steps. Mickey says her favorite piece is a woman dressed all in white who looks over the village while an executioner stands next to her. Multiple fog machines add ambience but also gave some drivers going past a real scare.
"The fire department used to come," said Bill Hendrix with a laugh. "Everybody is used to it now."
The Hendrix's say the whole display is put up for the enjoyment of local families. On Halloween night, several parents said they went out of their way to make sure their kids could see the Hendrix's display while trick or treating.
"It's just a really fun house - they make Halloween come alive," said William Rattray after a stop at the house.
