Police investigate fatal crash in Sennett

TOWN OF SENNETT, CAYUGA CO. -- Police in Cayuga County are investigating a fatal crash that took place overnight Monday.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, around 12:39 a.m. Monday a 2001 Saturn was headed west on State Route 5 in Sennett when it veered onto Turnpike Road. The car then drove off of the road, struck a concrete culvert, and rolled over several times.

Police say there were four passengers and a driver in the car. One passenger, 27-year-old Kathryn O. Walpole of Auburn, was pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital. Three other passengers were taken to Upstate Hospital with various back and chest injuries. The driver, 20-year-old Christopher M. Kennedy, was also hospitalized with an eye injury.

The car is registered to Robert Shea of Scipio.

Deputies have not announced any traffic tickets as a result of this crash, and say their investigation is continuing.
