SYRACUSE -- A traffic stop in Syracuse leads to the recovery of a loaded handgun.
Around 6 p.m. Monday, officers stopped a gray minivan along the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue after the driver allegedly went through a stop sign without stopping and officers spotted the car had an equipment violation.
When officers approached the car, they say the front seat passenger 31-year-old Terrance Blatche, of 311 Onondaga Avenue, had an open alcoholic beverage in his lap. When police asked him to stop out of the car, they say he had a handgun. While he was being taken into custody, police say a struggle broke out and Blatche was able to take off. He was eventually taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Police say they recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver that Blatche tossed while they were chasing him.
He's now charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and open container. He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.
The driver of the car was issued traffic tickets for disobeying a stop sign, unlicensed operation and no passenger side mirror on a motor vehicle.
