ONEIDA -- Parents in Oneida need to check their kids' Halloween candy carefully today. Oneida police are investigating a report of possibly tainted candy a teenager picked up while trick-or-treating last night.

The teen says she put a piece of Super Bubble Gum in her mouth and it tasted bitter and tin-like and made her lips somewhat numb. Her mother then tasted the gum and confirmed the odd taste and called police. The gum was sent to a lab for testing.

The teen says she was trick-or-treating on Broad Street, Main Street and Seneca Street in the City of Oneida last night.

The gum was an individually wrapped piece of Super Bubble Gum in a yellow, red and blue wrapper. At this point, it's not confirmed the gum was tainted, but investigators are looking into it.

Police advise anyone who got Super Bubble Gum to examine the pieces and use their discretion when deciding whether they want to consume it.
