Firefighters still checking for hotspots in destroyed house
Firefighters in Truxton are still checking the rubble that was a big, two storey home for hotspots on Sunday afternoon. An overnight fire destroyed the home, which sits 800 feet off the road. Firefighters could not get close to the flames , in part because the home was accessible only by a small wooden bridge.
The home's occupant, Joeelen Rard, was not home. A passerby saw the flames at 5704 Cheningo Solon Pond Road. and went to a neighbor's to call in the alarm, about 9:45 Saturday night. Volunteers from 8 departments in Cortland, Chenango and Madison Counties were called, and the last crews did not leave the scene til 2:30am Sunday. Cortland County's Fire Investigation Team continues its probe, and has still not determined if there was an explosion that led to the fire.
