SYRACUSE -- A record number of pet owners took advantage of low-cost healthcare for their animals Sunday afternoon at the third Healthy Pets Clinic of the year.

Roughly 150 animals got check-ups, shots and vaccinations during the clinic, which is put on by the Shamrock Animal Fund and CNY Animal Welfare Coalition.

That's three times as many animals than the first clinic.

The clinic, held in the gymnasium of St. Lucy's Church on Gifford Street in Syracuse, aims to help pet owners with financial limitations who live in Syracuse's south and near west side neighborhoods.

Organizers say the turnout was remarkable -- and had to halt sign-ups a half an hour into the clinic because folks were lined up for blocks along Gifford Street.

A similar series of three clinics is already being planned for the Spring.  There's also talk that the city of Syracuse and Onondaga County may get involved.
