SYRACUSE -- SU Head Coach Jim Boeheim appeared in front of cameras for the first time today, after the alleged sexual abuse scandal involving his long-time assistant coach and friend Bernie Fine.
"I've said everything I needed to say. And probably more than what most people would like me to say but I'm very confident that I have taken the right stance, said the right things and now we will let this thing play out. And whatever the results are, the results are," said Boeheim.
Boeheim was talking to a crowded room of cameras, as media sources from across the state and country swarmed into Syracuse following the sexual abuse accusations. Right now, Syracuse Police are investigating the claims that Fine molested two ball boys beginning in the 1980's.
Boeheim has defended Coach Fine from the start. "I've been friends for 50 years with Coach Fine. That buys a lot of loyalty from me."
Today was the first time SU players hit the hardwood after the alleged scandal broke on ESPN Thursday evening. "We are going to focus on basketball like we did today. Everything will be determined, outside of this team," said Boeheim.
"We have to focus on what we are doing, the players have to focus on classes and basketball and the coaching staff needs to focus on getting our players ready to play. These players have nothing to do with anything."
"It's been pretty good for 36 years and we've been through a lot of things. We'll get through whatever happens in our program," said Boeheim.
