CICERO -- The Cicero town board and the town supervisor are looking to combine their respective budget proposals and agree on on that will not raise takes as much as previously expected.

Hundreds of people came out Sunday for a public hearing and spoke out against the proposed 14-percent tax hike.

At Wednesday night's board meeting, councilors rejected, a budget with 2.75- percent tax increase, and ended- up with a 14-percent- hike. That happened because after voting down the proposal it went back to the preliminary budget. Both board members and the supervisor say that's unacceptable and are working toward a compromise.

Right now the difference in the two proposals includes job cuts and dipping into the town's savings account.
