CICERO -- The budget battle in Cicero in over.
On Sunday the town board voted to adopt a new budget which raises taxes by less than 1-percent. It amounts to $14 on a home assessed for $100,000.
The budget is a compromise between the outgoing and incoming town supervisors. The balance the budget, $900,000 is coming out of the "rainy day fund." Also, there will be a 5-percent reduction in pay for all elected officials and no raises for department heads.
Hundreds of people came to Sunday's special meeting concerned about how high their taxes could go up. At Wednesday night's board meeting, councilors rejected a budget with 2.75- percent tax increase, and ended- up with a 14-percent- hike. Both sides said that was unacceptable and worked toward a compromise.
