Fort Drum solider is killed in Afghanistan

AFGHANISTAN -- The pentagon confirms another Fort Drum Solider has been killed in Afghanistan.

The military says 20 year old private Jackie Diener of Michigan was killed when his unit was attacked by small arms fire in Kandahar province. He was a Cavalry Scout with the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Diener joined the Army in March 2011. After training at Fort Benning in Georgia he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division and arrived at Fort Drum in July 2011.

Diener's awards and decorations include The Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Army Combat Action Badge.

Diener was deployed to afghanistan in september, he leaves behind his mother and father.
