SYRACUSE -- Crews have started cleaning up vandalism on a historic monument in downtown Syracuse.

Sometime overnight heading into Thanksgiving, someone painted the phrase "500 years of genocide and imperialism...wake up" on the monument in the center of Columbus Circle. Friday morning, city workers were cleaning up the paint.

Syracuse Police say they will be checking surveillance cameras in the area. There are cameras, but officers aren't sure how many of them are actually pointed at the monument. So far, police do not have any suspects.

If you have any information, call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
