Tomorrow is known as small business Saturday. It's a movement to encourage people to shop at locally-owned stores.
In Central New York, several store owners are already excited.
Sacks Department Store in East Syracuse has many items on sale in preparation for the holiday shopping season.
"I'd like to think we provide a valuable service," says owner Bryan Sacks. "Someplace you can come locally, try on new stuff, lots of new styles. With local, all the money stays in town. I live here. All the money's here, instead of going someplace else."
In some cases, shopping local can help you find items you can't find anywhere else.
Bluetree is holding its grand opening on Westcott St. in Syracuse. Owner Christiana Semabia says the store carries items that are made in Ghana, as well as things made by local artisans.
"We find there's a nice complementary nature to that, purchasing directly from artists, whether they're near or far," says Semabia.
Of course, small business Saturday also highlights the old stand-bys, like Columbus Baking Company. The company has been in Syracuse for 116 years.
"We have people coming religiously here, week after week, day after day, year after year, generations. It's great," says owner Jimmy Retzos.
