Hoiday tradition returns to Shoppingtown
A Central New York holiday tradition is about to open: Starting Sunday, crews will be working in Shoppingtown, installing this year's edition of the Everson Festival of Trees. It's the 26th year for the locally-crafted trees, wreaths and other holiday decorations, all to benefit Syracuse's Everson Museum of Art. And it's much more than an art display.
Steven Kern, the Everson's director, says it also includes special events at Shoppingtown, including a preview gala and a ladies' night, and the popular Teddy Bear Tea (December 4th at the Genesee Grande).
The Festival of Trees runs December 2 - 11, 10am-5pm (online presale 20% off, regular $10) and when it's done the 'next' event, at the museum itself is a snow festival. Kern says they're building a 'snow igloo' out of gallon plastic milk containers, and are looking for clean donations for that, as well.
