ROME, ONEIDA CO. (AP) -- Authorities say a blaze at an abandoned cable factory in central New York has been extinguished.

Firefighters were called to the site of the former Rome Cable complex around 6:30 p.m. Monday after neighbors saw flames coming from the large structure located 35 miles east of Syracuse.

It took crews more than an hour to douse the fire.

Rome Cable closed in 2003. The property is on the state's list of brownfield sites. Parts of the complex have been demolished as local officials seek new uses for the site.

Officials haven't released information on a possible cause of the fire.
