ITHACA -- Police in Tompkins County are investigating a shooting overnight that has left one man dead.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, just after midnight Thursday officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting at the Chestnut Hill Apartments in Ithaca. After they arrived, police say they found one man with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Cayuga Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say their investigation leads them to believe that the shooting could be a result of a drug-related robbery. Witnesses told police that they saw possibly three men flee the scene in a gray minivan.

Police say the victim’s name will not be released until family members are notified.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Ithaca Police Department at 607-272-3245 or 607-272-9973.
