MARCY, ONEIDA CO. -- A New York Mills man is facing several felony charges for passing a bad check and scamming a company out of money.

36-year-old William Beery, of 754 Main Street, is charged with forgery, grand larceny and petit larceny.

State police say Beery wrote and passed a check valued at $2,056 on a closed account. They say he also told people he was a salesman for a company called Security Networks and offered to install a security surveillance package for a local business in the Town of Marcy. Police say he then accepted a down payment and completed the contract. But Beery wasn't employed by Security Networks and no work was ever done.

Beery was arraigned in the Town of Floyd Court and sent to the Oneida County Jail on $5,000 bail. He's due to reappear in Marcy Town Court at a later date.
