Chance to change medical, prescription coverage
Wednesday is the deadline to join into, or change Medicare health coverage for the coming year. Either way, there are decisions to be made.
Blaine Longnecker, Medicare Consultant with Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield, says if you like your coverage, you don't need to change. But, this is a good time to assess health changes and needs, and also see if the current plan covers doctors you want to keep going to (at less cost), and how traveling and medication needs are covered.
The government Medicare website has a lot of the basics, and many specific insurance providers, like Excellus, have more extensive websites as well as phone reps (800 659-1986 for BC/BS) for information.
And, if you're not 65 quite yet, it's also a good time to start checking the options--financial and medical-- for when you do go into the senior health plan.
