SYRACUSE -- A Clay man will spend the next 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography.
58-year-old Harvey DeLong was sentenced in federal court after he pleaded guilty to knowingly receiving and possessing child porn over the Internet.
After he gets out of prison, he'll be placed on supervised release for the rest of his life and will be required to register as a sex offender.
He was arrested after Syracuse police found child porn on his home computer. DeLong admits he not only received and possessed child porn, but also engaged in online file sharing and direct trading of it online. Prosecutors say they found more than 2,000 video files and more than 180,000 image files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Prosecutors say some included depictions of pre-pubescent minors and images that portray sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence.
DeLong's prosecutor was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. It uses federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
