ALEXANDRIA, JEFFERSON CO. -- One man is dead after his SUV hit a telephone pole Monday afternoon.

State Police in Alexandria Bay tell CNY Central that at approximately 5:53 p.m. Troopers were called to investigate a report of a single vehicle crash on State Route 37 in the Town of Alexandria. Police say 63-year-old Frank R. Martin of Lisbon was driving north on Route 37 when his 2009 Jeep drove off of the road and ran into a telephone pole, shearing the pole. Martin was removed from his vehicle by Redwood Fire Department personnel and taken to River Hospital in Alex Bay, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say their investigation into the cause of the crash remains open.
