AUBURN -- Indictments were filed today against an Auburn man accused of killing his former girlfriend.

39-year-old Ryan Brahney is facing seven counts, including charges of second degree murder, burglary, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies. He will be arraigned in Cayuga County Court.

Brahney is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Bridget Bell multiple times with a kitchen knife last month while their 3-year-old son slept in the other room.

Auburn police were called to the Olympia Terrace Apartments in the early morning hours where they found Bell dead in her apartment. Their 3-year-old son was found asleep and unharmed in an upstairs bedroom. The little boy is now being cared for by Bell's mother.

This isn't Brahney's first run-in with the law. His criminal history includes an assault conviction in the 1990's that did not involve Bell. He was also charged with assaulting Bell and was accused of violating an order of protection and breaking Bell's coffee table.

Family and friends remember a young woman with a huge smile and an infectious laugh.
