ONEIDA -- Lab results show there was no danger from a report of tainted Halloween candy in the City of Oneida.

Police Chief David Meeker says lab reports found nothing wrong with a piece of Super Bubble Gum a teen got while trick or treating. At the time, she said the gum tasted bitter and tin-like, then made her lips feel somewhat numb. Her mother also tried the gum and reported the same taste.

The gum was sent to the Western Region Crime Lab in Olean, in Western New York.

Meeker says there was no malicious intent to the original report. He says the girl and her mother reported the odd taste as a precaution. There will be no charges against them or any further investigation.
