SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse police officer was injured after his vehicle was involved in a crash Friday night.

It happened around 11:15 pm on South Midler Avenue. Police say Officer Jason Welch was responding to a call and was behind another police car. Both had their emergency lights on. Police say Theron Simpson, 22, was driving ahead of them and pulled over. After the first police car passed, police say Simpson pulled away from the curb and into the path of Officer Welch. Welch hurt his wrist and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Simpson was also treated for his pain.

Simpson was ticketed for not yielding to an emergency vehicle. He also got an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana.
