SYRACUSE -- Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep some of the documents related to the Bernie Fine investigation sealed.
The results of search warrants on Fine's home, banks, locker, and office at the Carmelo Anthony Basketball Center have already been released. However, the applications for those warrants are still sealed. The applications would contain information about what investigators were looking for, and what evidence they used to get the warrants.
Defense attorneys have already written a letter to Federal Magistrate Andrew Baxter saying they do not have a problem with releasing the warrant applications.
Prosecutors disagree. They wrote their own letter saying releasing the documents could " jeopardize the government's ongoing investigation into the sensitive area of child abuse and molestation...It would also reveal personal and potentially embarrassing information about witnesses who have come forward." Prosecutors are concerned releasing the applications could provide "the target with insight into the nature of the investigation."
Federal investigators seized several cell phones, dozens of VHS tapes, laptops, recording devices, and electronic storage devices, as well as file cabinets from Fine's home and office.
Fine is accused of molesting three boys. He was fired from his job as the Associate Head Basketball Coach at Syracuse University.
