SYRACUSE -- The state's new property tax cap could cause some sweeping changes to New York's public schools.

A report released today by the New York State School Board Association predicts that the cap will result in more school closings, a greater sharing of teachers between districts, and a renewed push for consolidation.

A few months ago, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that would cap property tax increases at two percent unless sixty percent of voters agreed to an override.

The Association is holding its annual meeting here in Syracuse today.

This report comes as districts are preparing next year's school budgets, which will be the first under the new property tax cap.
