FULTON -- Today is the last day of production at the Birds Eye plant in Fulton.

Mayor Ron Woodward confirms the plant is closing down. Nearly 300 people worked at the plant when Pinnacle Foods announced in April it would shut the plant down. Woodward says a skeleton crew of three or four people will continue working at the facility for the next few months, but production is done.

The Oswego County Industrial Development Agency has been reaching out to other manufacturers, looking to bring business back to the facility. There has been some interest, but no one has been lined up so far.

Woodward says he hopes the National Grid rate cuts announced Thursday will help lure business to the area. He says power costs are one of the big issues facing manufacturing in this state.
