ALBANY (AP) -- A New Jersey recycling company has been sentenced to pay a $500,000 criminal fine and more than $70,000 in restitution and cleanup costs for its role in dumping thousands of tons of asbestos-contaminated construction debris on farmland near the Mohawk River in Central New York in 2006.

Federal prosecutors say Lieze Associates, doing business as Eagle Recycling of North Bergen, pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge earlier this year and agreed to comply with environmental laws. It was accused of producing most of the truckloads of debris dumped on 1.3 acres on the 28-acre farm in Frankfort.

The illegal Frankfort dump was shut down in 2006. Federal and state environmental officials from New York, New Jersey and Ohio investigated.
