SYRACUSE -- A member of the Syracuse University board of trustees who's a longtime friend of former assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine has resigned from the board.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports former Syracuse basketball player George Hicker told the newspaper he resigned earlier this month because the trustee duties had become more work than expected.

The 65-year-old Hicker, president of a Los Angeles real estate firm, was a teammate of current Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim during the 1960s, when Fine was team manager. Hicker was appointed a trustee in May 2010.

Fine was fired Nov. 27 after a 36-year career at Syracuse after three men said he molested them when they were boys.

Fine has denied the allegations.

Hicker has said he believes Fine isn't guilty of child molestation.
