SYRACUSE -- Four Syracuse police officers are being credited with saving a man who they believe was trying to commit suicide over Interstate 81.
Around 7:30 p.m., police were called to the Spencer Street bridge over Route 81 for reports of a possible suicidal person. When they got there, they found an 18-year-old man standing on the outside of the bridge railing over 81.
Officers Demetrius Christou and Brandon Fougnier spoke with the man and were able to hold onto him until more officers arrived. Officers Andrew Quinn and Jim Cinque then arrived on the scene to assist. All four officers then pulled the man back over the bridge railing to safety. He was transported for evaluation, and no one was injured in the incident.
As our policy, CNY Central typically does not report on suicides or suicide attempts, but in this case it posed a potential risk to the public.
