Tuscarora man pours gasoline throughout home, three-hour standoff with police

TUSCARORA, STEUBEN CO. -- A Tuscarora man surrendered to police after a three-hour standoff early Wednesday morning.

Police say John Harris, 49, surrendered three hours after a standoff that began when Harris poured gasoline throughout his house during a domestic dispute.

Troopers say Harris poured the gas while others were inside the home, including a person under 17.

Police say Harris was alone in his rural Steuben County home when they arrived around 12:15am Wednesday.

State police crisis negotiators talked with Harris for the three hours before he surrendered.

Harris was charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon Harris was held in the county jail on $24,000 bail.
