CHENANGO CO. -- Two people from Oxford are accused of intentionally crashing a car to get insurance money.

Around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Chenango County Sheriff's deputies responded to a car crash at the intersection of Lower Ravine Road and Preston Center Road in Norwich.

Deputies say Scott Brazee and Elizabeth Gatlin admitted to getting out of the car before the crash. Investigators say Brazee then put the vehicle in drive and intentionally steered it in the direction of a tree, smashing the car.

Deputies say the two admitted to intentionally crashing the car in an attempt to be reimbursed by their insurance company. They are both now charged with attempted insurance fraud and reckless endangerment. They're scheduled to appear in Norwich Town Court at a later date.
