MCGRAW, CORTLAND CO. -- Thursday night, the Cortland County Legislature voted down a proposal to expand the county landfill.
The landfill is located in the Town of McGraw, and the issue has been a hot button topic among community members. The proposal included allowing trash from other areas to be brought into the county dump.
Cortland County officials tell CNY Central that the landfill is only talking about accepting half of the 44,000 tons of garbage it can handle, and taking trash from other states and counties would have brought the county more revenue.
The proposal was defeated 10-9 at Thursday night's meeting.
