BINGHAMTON (AP) -- A state Supreme Court judge has reserved decision on a legal effort to stop the planned deer culling at Binghamton University's Nature Preserve.

The Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin reports that Justice Molly Fitzgerald reserved decision Thursday after receiving written and oral arguments.

Attorney David Bernheim has sought a preliminary injunction to block the university's plan to hire sharpshooters to kill 90 percent of the deer population during the winter break. He represents a professor whose property is next to the nature preserve.

A committee of faculty, staff and students recommended the culling because overpopulation of deer has had a devastating effect on forest regeneration in the preserve.
