SYRACUSE -- The City of Syracuse officially has a new auditor.
Marty Masterpole was sworn in at City Hall Tuesday afternoon.
The auditor acts as a watchdog in city government, reviewing finances and policies.
Masterpole is hoping he can help improve the city of Syracuse and not worry about politics.
"This isn't about Marty Masterpole. This isn't about Stephanie Miner. It's about the position of mayor and the position of city auditor working independent of each other but cooperating so our city taxpayers have what they deserve."
Masterpole won a close and hotly contested election in November against Republican Steve Kimatian.
