FULTON -- Former workers form the Birds Eye plant in Fulton are getting some help.

They're eligible for what's known as Trade Adjustment Assistance from the federal Department of Labor. That assistance money can be used for training, relocation, or health insurance. Workers should get a packet in the mail from the government with instructions on how to apply.

Dave Pittsley, the president of Workers United Local 1822, says many of the former workers have not found new jobs. Nearly 300 people worked at the plant when Pinnacle Foods announced in April it would shut the plant down.

Production at Birds Eye ended on December 16th. This Friday was the last day for maintenance workers.

Pittsley says Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's office helped get the approval for the assistance.
