CAZENOVIA -- A Cazenovia man is accused of firing a rifle in his back yard - and the bullet ended up in someone's else's home.
State Police have charged 45-year-old James Nichols of 3587 Pompey Hollow Road in Cazenovia with misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. According to police, Nichols was shooting a .308 caliber rifle at a couch in his yard on Saturday afternoon when a bullet from his gun ended up about half a mile away.
Investigators say the bullet passed through a steel door and hit a wall, the bullet then rebounded off a different wall leaving an impact mark where a family member was standing at the time. The bullet then landed on a dining room table.
Police say no one was hurt.
Troopers seized Nichols' rifle and ammunition. He was ordered to appear in Pompey Town Court on January 24.
