ROCHESTER -- Those Wegmans commercials starring Alec Baldwin may have been popular, but they're gone for the season.
The grocery store chain confirms it pulled the commercials early after backlash from Baldwin's December 6 incident with American Airlines. He was kicked off of a flight out of Los Angeles International Airport after he refused to turn off an electronic device he was using to play "Words with Friends." Baldwin bickered with the airline on Twitter, and has since cancelled his account.
A spokesperson for Wegmans, Evelyn Carter, says the commercials were scheduled to run for three weeks over the holiday season. The timing coincided with the airline incident. The commercials were pulled for the final week after a few dozen complaints linked to the incident.
Carter says "We do take customer feedback to heart. Because we were receiving several complaints from customers, we did decide to pull them."
The commercials would have been scheduled to end by now regardless of the airline incident.
Baldwin was hired for the ads after he mentioned that his mother, who lives in the Syracuse area, is a loyal Wegmans customer. They were filmed in Central New York back in 2010.
