ORISKANY -- A man accused of killing a six-year-old girl has been assaulted in jail.

The Chief Deputy at the Oneida County Correctional Facility confirms David Trebilcock was beaten up by another inmate Wednesday. At the time, Trebilcock did not want to press charges, but changed his mind Thursday. An investigation into the fight is now underway. Jail officials aren't sure what motivated the assault, but say there were no outward signs of any ongoing problems.

Jail officials say the other inmate, Shaun Andrews, will face disciplinary action regardless of the criminal case. Andrews is in jail on two counts of assault.

Trebilcock is accused of stabbing six-year-old Lauren Belius to death last summer at their home in Sherrill. Belius was the daughter of Trebilcock's girlfriend.

Trebilcock's trial is scheduled to start in February.
