NICHOLS, TIOGA CO. (AP) -- Authorities say a body found on an island in an upstate New York river last week was that of an ex-convict recently released from prison.

State police say two duck hunters found the body of 41-year-old William Johnston Jr. of Barton last Saturday morning on an island in the Susquehanna River in the Tioga County town of Nichols, 20 miles west of Binghamton.

According to state prison records, Johnston was released from Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, Seneca County, in late October after serving an eight-year sentence for robbery.

He was last seen Nov. 15 and reported missing by his family two days later.

Johnston's sister tells WBNG-TV in Binghamton that the county coroner says her brother died of hypothermia.

State police investigators said they were awaiting autopsy results before commenting on a cause of death.
