3 men facing multiple charges
SYRACUSE -- A loaded handgun and drugs are off the streets of Syracuse after a traffic stop.
It happened Sunday night around 9:15.
Police stopped a black Dodge Charger along the 700 block of Tallman Street after officers noticed the car was stopped along the 300 block of South Avenue, according to a press release. A male entered the vehicle at that time.
When police pulled the car over on Tallman Street, the backseat passenger immediately got out of the car and ran off.
Officers chased the man and quickly caught up with him on the 100 block of Hudson Street, according to investigators. The man was identified as Alfred Hamilton, 24, of Syracuse.
Two other officers who stayed with the Dodge Charger arrested the two men inside after a 9mm handgun and cocaine were found.
The suspects were identified as Brian McAlpine, 22, and Alshaun Harper, 24, both of Syracuse.
All were charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and third degree criminal possession of a weapon. Both are felonies.
Each was also charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, which is a misdemeanor.
McAlpine was also issued traffic tickets for being stopped in the middle of the road and was charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
Hamilton faces additional charges of unlawful possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, and tampering with evidence. He was also given a traffic ticket for soliciting a ride.
All three were sent to the Justice Center and are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Syracuse City Court.
