UTICA -- Be careful the next time you answer your door.

Utica police say a suspicious person was going door-to-door last Thursday along 300 block of Pleasant Street offering shoveling services. The front door of a nearby home was forced open, leading police to believe the suspect tried to break into the house.

It comes as police investigate several burglaries from January 1-4 along the 300 block of Wetmore Street, 400 block of Tilden Avenue, 500 block of Bacon Street and 500 block of St. Anthony Street. They happened during the early morning hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Gaming systems and cash were reportedly taken.

The suspicious person is described as an Hispanic male, about 6 ft. tall, wearing a gray colored hooded sweatshirt and light colored jacket. Police think he may be forcing doors open at homes where no one answers.

If you see anyone matching the suspect's description, do not open your door and tell the person to go away. Then call Utica police.
