SYRACUSE -- On Monday, the public got its first chance to look at possible development plans for Syracuse's Inner Harbor.
Hart-Lyman Companies, COR Development, and J&A Builders of Syracuse have submitted plans to the city. In those much anticipated plans, the Hart-Lyman Companies would like to build a Bass Pro Shop, office space, housing and possibly a hotel and museum.
The J&A Builders of Syracuse submitted a plan that consists of building townhouses. However, the plan does not cover the entire 28 acres of the Inner Harbor, so it could be used in conjunction with another plan.
COR Development says it will build street level shops, restaurants and a public space by the water. COR Development also intends to build a hotel and residential properties, a community boat house, and an expansion of Onondaga Community College.
Before any one of these companies can break ground a selection committee will make a recommendation to Mayor Stephanie Miner, who can then send it to the Common Council for approval.
The development would occur on 28 acres of land around the Inner Harbor that connects Franklin Square to Carousel Center and Onondaga Lake. The city is waiting for the New York State Canal Corporation to transfer the property to the city.
We went to the Inner Harbor to ask people what they would like to see there. Many people say they would like to see shops or bathrooms added. However, they want to see the natural beauty of the area preserved.
Have you visited the Syracuse Inner Harbor? What was your experience like? What would you like to see added? Post your comments below.
