With gas prices inching up almost every time you visit the pump, everyone is looking for ways to save when you fill up.

One Florida cab driver thinks he's found a device that lets him do just that. Gas is Don Philippi's biggest expense. He used to go through two 20-gallon tanks a day to power his '91 Crown Victoria. It was enough to eat into profits.

Now Philippi says he's come up with a way to beat the high price of gasoline. It's a secret little component he has stashed in his engine compartment. The unit produces hydrogen, or technically, hydrogen and oxygen. The little black box just behind his grill gets a steady stream of distilled water and flakes of potassium hydroxide. Once electricity is added, hydrogen and oxygen are produced and piped into the engine's air intake. "The fuel from the gasoline is now being burnt clean. Completely clean. That's the key, right. That is the key. There is no hydrocarbons being emitted," Phillipi said.

Don's kit to make hydrogen cost him $500. "I'm getting at least 18 to 20 miles to gallon...as opposed to 6 or 7," he said.

The internet is full of companies ready to sell you a hydrogen-making unit. Don Philippi is sold, but do some research before you dive in yourself.
